Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, we are welcoming new patients to our practice! Please see the list of insurances that we accept under the Insurances section of our website.

When scheduling an appointment with our pediatric office, please ensure all healthcare records are shared with us. This helps us facilitate a seamless transition and deliver the highest standard of care tailored to your child’s needs. Medical records give us valuable insight into your child's medical history, past treatments, and ongoing health needs.

  • How do I make an appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled by phone or online. Both sick and well visits can be scheduled online on our website. Our phones open at 7:30 AM on weekdays and 8 am on Saturdays. We offer same day appointments.

If your pediatrician does not have available appointments listed online, please call our office to schedule. Not all available appointments are released online daily.

Online booking for sick visits is best used for acute illness. If you have several concerns or are following up on a chronic illness, please call the office to schedule your appointment to ensure we set aside adequate time.

Office visits are by appointment only.

  • Do you accept my health insurance?

Please refer to our Insurance page to review a list of accepted insurance carriers. Call our office if you have insurance questions.

  • How do we contact the after hours doctor?

Our dedicated pediatric team is available 24/7. If it is after office hours, we are available for urgent concerns only.

We encourage you to check our child health resources before calling after hours.

For non-urgent matters such as mild illness, scheduling appointments, or refilling medications, please call during regular office hours. Routine refills of medications and referrals will not be handled after hours.

IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • What is a pediatrician?

A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the care of children. Pediatricians have undergone special training in the health and illnesses of infants, children, teens, and young adults, and are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics after passing comprehensive exams.

Pediatricians provide medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill  and preventive health care for children in good health.

They also provide parents with support and advice on concerns such as growth and development, safety, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.

  • May I request a specific pediatrician for my visit?

Every effort is made to arrange your child's care and follow-up visits with the pediatrician of your choice. When your child is ill and needs to be seen the same day, they may see any one of our physicians.

  • How often does my child need to be seen in the office?
  • Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?

Immunizations are given to children at various ages to protect them from serious and potentially fatal childhood diseases. Ensuring your child receives these immunizations on schedule is the best way to protect their health. The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that vaccinations have decreased infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by over 90%.

If you have any concerns about vaccinations, feel free to contact our office. We're here to help!

  • What immunizations will my child receive?

To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics. Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our pediatricians.

  • When will I receive lab or test results?

You will receive a call quickly with any lab results that require urgent attention. Other abnormal lab results will be addressed promptly by the clinician who ordered the labs or tests. Normal values are reviewed and addressed by the care provider who ordered them.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

For medication refills, please ensure there are no refills available by calling your pharmacy. If there are no refills available, call our office during regular business hours and our team can assist you. We are dedicated to ensuring your child’s medications are available when needed.

  • Does your practice support breastfeeding families?

Yes, we encourage breastfeeding. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, prevents allergies, and protects against many chronic conditions. Dr. Michalko is an IBCLC (Lactation Consultant) and sees families with infants for specialized feeding appointments in addition to standard pediatric care.

While breast milk is an excellent nutritional choice for infants, breastfeeding may not be possible or the right fit for all families. In these cases, an iron-fortified, milk-based infant formula is a great alternative.

We will gladly discuss any feeding concerns at your child's visit.

  • Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?

Yes, in fact we strongly encourage parents-to-be to visit our office for a prenatal appointment. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our pediatricians. Visit our expecting parents page for more information.

  • I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?

We recommend that your newborn be seen in our office 1-2 days after discharge from the hospital. Our staff understands the importance of this first visit and will make every effort to schedule this visit promptly.
